Olive Oil and Flour - Monsaraz Tour

We’ll start with a Tour in Monsaraz where we´re going to learn about the Alentejo, History, Architecture and also about the strong Cultural Identity of the Region
Then we’ll drive to the fields and take a short walk along a medieval path surrounded by
centuries-old olive trees.
We'll now
visit an old mill where olive oil and flour were produced.
After a small Presentation about Olive Oil and Flour, and since I have a small olive grove,
we'll try the authentic local oil with local bread. Olive oil is super important in the region; it's used in food, but also in lighting, cosmetics, and "medicines and blessings" or old medicine. To produce olive oil, we use the "Galega" olive, and to eat with our meals, we use the "Bical" olive. The oldest olive tree in the region is 3,000 years old; no one knows who owns it, and it's called the "mother olive tree" by locals.
Here is a Presentation about wheat from our partners at “Sem-Fim”:
“Wheat is so present in the daily lives of Alentejo people that it has crossed our lives in every way, and it can be said that, from the earth to our mouths, directly or indirectly, it has always supported all activities in our region. The Alentejo agricultural landscape itself changed throughout the year depending on the different needs for treating the land that led to the production of bread. A bread producer, the Alentejo native was and is a bread eater, supporting himself with it for centuries, from generation to generation. He made it the basis of his diet and with it he created a cuisine that found simple flavors to replace richer dishes, making one of the best dishes - migas.
We now return to Monsaraz where the customers can enjoy the shops and restaurants.
