Boat Ride with Lunch - Juromenha Tour
We´re going to visit the immense Juromenha Fortification, take a boat trip on the Guadiana River, with Captain Joaquim, ending with lunch of local Tapas with Chef Janete.
We´ll start with the Tour in Juromenha. Juromenha is strategically located, high up and at a crossroad. Here we’ll find a Medieval Islamic and Christian Castle that reused stones from the Romans and Visigoths. A puzzle of the various cultures that passed through the Alentejo. In the 17th century, it was necessary to build an immense Bulwark Fortification to resist attacks with cannons. Juromenha Fortification was recently restored with an investment of over 5 million euros. From Juromenha, we can see Guadiana River, also the reservoir of the Alqueva Dam, and Spain. In the background, we can see Serra d'Alor and the city of Olivença, where the inhabitants are Portuguese and Spanish.
We’ll go now for our Boat Ride on the river where we can see various species of birds. We can ask Captain Joaquim to have coffee on the other side of the river, in Spain. If we're lucky, we'll see the fishermen going about their daily work, casting or retrieving their nets.
We’ll end up in the typical village of Juromenha where we´ll visit "Pata Larga". Here, Chef Janete, will give us several “Tapas” to try in her traditional “Tasca”.
